CONSIDERING MATERNITY PHOTOS? HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

To take maternity photos or not take maternity photos? That is the question.

FOR SOME mothers IT'S A HARD NO, FOR some IT'S AN ABSOLUTE YES. FOR OTHERS...IT CAN FEEL LIKE A DIFFICULT DECISION.

I get it. With all of the changes you are experiencing, you can start to feel like a stranger to your own body. You're uncomfortable. You're tired. You don't feel that "pregnancy glow" that everyone talks about. Why would you want to capture that?

You may feel different once you see yourself from another perspective

It can be easy to get into a funk about how you look at any time in your life, but pregnancy can be especially difficult. Your body is changing in ways you never imagined and sometimes it just straight up does not feel good. However, you are only able to see yourself from one vantage point. Doing your hair and makeup and wearing a pretty gown that is created specifically to flatter your body can make you feel like a whole new person. Not to mention, when you find a photographer who knows how to pose you to look your best, you might be amazed at how incredible you look.

Memories are still memories

The beauty of photography is the story behind each image. Even if you don't feel your best in the moment, this is such a special time to remember–whether it's your first child, last child, or one in between. In fact, it can be fun to look back on these with a partner, family member, or friend and laugh about how you felt during that time. Another funny thing about memories is that we don't always remember them exactly how they are. You might look back at these photos and just see the beauty in them. Not how swollen you felt or how your back hurt, just how beautiful it was to carry and give life to your child.

You and your child can look back on this time together

These photos are special not only for you, but for your little one to look back on as well. In fact, it might be even more important to them to see just how much you loved them even before you ever met them. These things might seem small and silly to us, but it can do wonders for a child's self esteem to see the love you have always had for them.

So you want maternity photos...when should you get them?

THE IDEAL TIMEFRAME FOR MATERNITY PHOTOS IS BETWEEN 28-36 WEEKS of your pregnancy.

Each pregnancy is different though. You may be the same size at 28 weeks in this pregnancy as you were at 38 weeks with your previous child. In this case, you might opt to do your photos on the earlier end of your third trimester or even at the end of your second trimester.

My favorite time is right around the 30 week mark since you usually still feel pretty active at this time. Another thing we know about babies is that they operate on their own time. Babies can come early, so photographing your maternity session around this time helps to minimize the chances that you'll miss out on maternity photos in case your little one gets impatient and decides they want to join us earlier than we expected.

Another thing to consider is the weather. Are you due in late August? Early February? This might help you determine when you want your maternity photos to take place, or if you'd prefer to do your photos in-studio or outdoors.

Whatever you choose, if you are looking for maternity photos in Augusta, Georgia or the surrounding CSRA area–I'd love to have the honor of capturing this special time for you and your family.
